Minneapolis City Hall
The Challenge
Replacing a flagpole more than 400 feet above the streets of downtown Minneapolis presented some unique access challenges. The flagpole sits at the top of the historic Minneapolis City Hall clock tower, surrounded by a steep, sloped copper roof that made conventional access methods unfeasible. Crews needed to access the base of the flagpole to disconnect the old flagpole and secure the new one, all while protecting the historic structure and streets down below. Careful planning, coordination between companies, and execution were needed.
The Solution
Infinity Scaffold developed a plan to build scaffold underneath the clock tower roof and work outward through the roof hatches. From there, scaffolding was installed out through the roof hatches and finally around the base of the clock tower. This created a secure working platform around the base of the flagpole that allowed the safe removal of the old flagpole and installation of the new flagpole.
A scaffolding project with this complexity required detailed design, planning, and coordination between all parties involved, resulting in a successful flagpole replacement at Minneapolis City Hall.
